Sustainable Practices

To meet the energy challenges of the 21st century, Katie and I always consider the effects of our actions at home and in the workplace. As much as we can, we adopt sustainable practices and support organizations with the same mindset. Now more than ever, the Planet needs both Individuals and Businesses acting as catalysts to address the damages done to the Planet.

Packing and Packaging Materials:

  • Our Corrugated Boxes are recyclable and made in the USA
  • Our Packing Peanuts are biodegradable (they decompose in water).
  • Our Tissue paper is recyclable
  • Our Crinkle-cut Paper is recyclable and made in the USA
  • Our Packing Tape is made from a gummed kraft paper that is eco-friendly and recyclable. The tape itself is biodegradable and repulpable
  • Our Honeycomb Wrapping Paper is recyclable, environmentally friendly, and made in the USA. (It uses 20% less material than ordinary packaging solutions, like bubble wrap)

Upcycling:

Upcycling is defined as to "reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.". When possible, reusing clean packing materials and transforming wooden pallets from our suppliers to store our inventory is one of the many way we upcycle.

The slogan “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” encapsulates some of the practices we adopt every day. However, there is more to sustainability than conserving resources:

Reducing carbon emissions:

“The U.S. is the largest contributor to transportation-related emissions worldwide, accounting for approximately 25 percent of the global total”, according to Statista, leading provider of market and consumer data. To do our part and reduce our transportation carbon footprint, Crystal Logic Shop partners with local suppliers whenever possible. Over 75% of our inventory comes from local vendors, here in Florida or on the East Coast.

Our goal, at Crystal Logic Shop, is to have a Neutral Carbon Footprint by 2024. [Carbon Neutral - or Net Zero Carbon - is a term used to describe the state of an entity (such as a company, service, product, or event), where the carbon emissions caused by them have been balanced out by funding an equivalent amount of carbon savings elsewhere in the world.]

Supporting Eco-Initiatives:

We are profoundly admiring the projects and philosophy of the Ocean Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The Arbor Day Foundation:

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with more than one million members, supporters, and valued partners. Since 1972, more than 400 million Arbor Day Foundation trees have been planted in neighborhoods, communities, cities and forests throughout the world. The Foundation's stated mission is "to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees”. The organization has a Charity Navigator rating of 96 out of 100 for Accountability & Transparency.

The Ocean Foundation

Founded in 2001, The Ocean Foundation (TOF) is a unique community foundation with a mission to support, strengthen, and promote those organizations dedicated to reversing the trend of destruction of ocean environments around the world. They work with a community of donors who care about the coasts and oceans. In this manner, they grow the financial resources available to support marine conservation in order to promote healthy ocean ecosystems and benefit the human communities that depend on them. TOF increases the capacity of conservation organizations, hosts projects and funds, and supports those working to improve the health of ocean species globally. The organization has a Charity Navigator rating of 100 out of 100 for Accountability & Transparency, and a 4 out of 4 star rating.
