Selenite's historical origins trace back to ancient times when it was discovered and admired by civilizations such as the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians. The Greeks associated Selenite with lunar energy and named it after the moon goddess, Selene, calling it "stone of the moon." Later, in 1747, J.G. Wallerius, in his book "Mineralogia, eller Mineralriket," gave it the name "selenites," derived from the Greek word 'σεληνη' (the moon), likely inspired by its pale bluish reflections.
